In Quebec, Law 122 requires owners of buildings with five stories or more to carry out inspections every five years, starting before the tenth year after the building construction, in order to assess the stability of the façades. This law does not apply to buildings of four stories or less; nevertheless, the condition of these buildings depends on their owners’ diligence.
Did you know that the first 100% electric vehicles were marketed in 1832? However, it is since 2011 that they are seen more regularly on the roads of Quebec. Moreover, the milestone of 100,000 electric vehicles was surpassed in 2021, and projections indicate that there will be more than 1.5 million electric vehicles by 2030. In addition to this rapid growth of electric vehicles, as of 2035, the sale of new gasoline vehicles will be prohibited in Canada.
It was in the 18th century that downhill ski competitions first appeared. Indeed, at that time, the Norwegian army used downhill skis made of long hard wooden boards (often more than 2 meters), such as ash, to compete between soldiers. It is in the region of Telemark, Norway, at the end of the 18th century, that the first ski camber appeared. This type of ski made it easier to perform turns, and this technique bearing the same name today is still in use. A few decades later, the first laminated skis emerged. It was the first time that a combination of hard wood was used for the base and another softer wooden board for the top, such as spruce, which resulted in lighter skis with more flexibility and rebound. The dazzling evolution of this sports equipment was then launched.
During the cold periods of the year, solid‑fuel heating units (fireplaces, wood stoves) are used frequently by owners and/or occupants, which generates residues such as creosote in the chimney flue and ashes in the heating unit. Depending on the frequency of use, this implies that maintenance of the chimney flue components and the removal of ashes from the hearth of a fireplace become necessary more or less regularly.
