Corrosion

The technical definition of corrosion is the (usually undesired) oxidation of metals and metallic pieces. The lay person probably associates corrosion mostly with the rusting of steel parts, especially automobile body panels. Our experts determine the causes of corrosion involved in part failures and losses, including obvious damage due to incompatible environments, unexpected failures due to contaminations, improper material specifications and synergistic effects of multiple contributing factors. Since corrosion is desirable in certain circumstances, such as the anodization treatment of aluminum parts, we can also identify how the normal corrosion product has broken down to alter the appearance, or even degrade the surface of the parts.
